Our Resources

As a full-service animal hospital in Fairfield, we play an important role in the health care of your pets. In the case of emergency veterinary care during regular office hours, we will make your pet's care our priority. We have invested in sophisticated diagnostic equipment and have surgical expertise in our veterinary center.

Pet Health Insurance Options

At Southport Veterinary Center, we urge our clients to consider health insurance for their pets. Veterinary medicine offers many advanced treatment options to help care for your dogs and cats in case of an accident, illness, and aging. Insurance benefits can assist significantly in covering the costs of these treatments.

There are several companies offering pet health insurance. To help you assess the different services they offer, we made a cost/benefit comparison found.

Quotes may differ for different breeds and different ages, so to get an insurance quote for your animals, please go to their websites. You may also find the insurance companies offer introductory offers or special discounts.

The Bark Stops Here

We are very fortunate to work with a noted dog trainer and behavior therapist. Jody has been in practice since 1980 and is a well-known, caring, and compassionate authority on all aspects of dog and puppy behaviors. She runs an ongoing series of group workshops here at Southport Vet Center, in addition to seeing clients for private sessions in their homes or location of their choice.

Jody is a fantastic resource. We encourage you to seek out her guidance when welcoming a new puppy into the home, or for assistance on any behavior questions.

Preparing for Loss

The sad fact is most pets don't live as long as we do. When you love your pets, you must also be prepared to lose them. It's not easy to prepare for the loss. Here at Southport Veterinary Center, we strive to make this decision as easy as it can be. Preparing for pet loss begins the moment you realize that the time has come to turn your thoughts toward how and when you want to say goodbye.

Planning can help lessen the anxiety or any possible regrets you could have when the time comes. To help you make these decisions in the privacy of your own home, we offer a list of different options and costs for you to consider.

Adoption Options

Here are some resources to help you rescue a dog or cat, puppy or kitten, in need of a new home. There are a variety of organizations and shelters working hard to save stray and unwanted animals in our area and beyond. Please consider a rescued pet when you are ready for your next four-legged friend.
